Troubleshooting When Recent Changes Don’t Reflect

When you create and publish a new artifact, changes to your site’s content may not appear immediately. Below are some common causes and their solutions.

If CSS/Styles Are Missing from the Newly Published Site

Issue

After migrating a new site or generating it for the first time, Shifter synchronizes all content and files from your WordPress site to the static site. Once the artifact generation process is complete, you can view the site in your browser, but some files may still be syncing in the background. This is commonly seen when migrating large sites with numerous files in the wp-content folder when migrating large sites with a large number of files to Shifter.

Solution

The solution is to wait for the synchronization process to complete. The time required depends on the size of your site’s files. Alternatively, clear your browser’s cache. Performing a hard refresh to clear the browser’s cache will download the latest available files, which will then be displayed in your browser.

If Nothing Has Changed After Generating a New Artifact

Issue

Even after generating a new artifact and attempting to view the site in your browser, nothing appears to have changed.

Solution

If this sounds familiar, the first thing to check is your site’s Shifter auto-publish settings. If the auto-publish option is not enabled, you may be viewing an older version of the site in your browser. To resolve this, try one of the following methods:

  • Manually publish the latest artifact
  • Enable automatic publishing and generate a new artifact
