Solutions for Timeouts During Artifact Generation or Publication

The following are solutions for timeouts that occur during artifact generation or publication.

Solutions

1. Delete Unnecessary Files, Themes, and Plugins

Clean up WordPress by deleting unnecessary files, themes, and plugins.(Example: Unused modules)

  • Uninstall deactivated themes and plugins.
  • Delete unused files and modules from activated themes and plugins.

2. Switch to Manual Publication

To avoid automatically publishing corrupted files, we recommend publishing artifacts manually.

Please refer to the following documentation for instructions on how to disable automatic publishing.

How to disable auto-publish

3. Wait Before Publishing

If you still encounter timeout errors even after uninstalling unnecessary plugins and themes and deleting unnecessary files, it may be because the theme or plugin is taking a long time to load. Please wait a while before publishing manually. Wait about 10 to 20 minutes until everything is ready for publication.

Suggestions for Organizing WordPress

Here are some suggestions for organizing WordPress.

A. Plugin Libraries and SDKs:
Plugins may contain numerous libraries and SDK files from external services. Pack these into a Phar file.

B. Node.js in Themes:
Themes may contain Node.js, including node_modules directory to build CSS. Change the configuration to bundle the built CSS files and remove the node_modules directory from the theme.

C. Migrating from Other Environments:
If you’re migrating from another environment (self-hosted or managed WordPress), it may contain plugins not supported by Shifter, which could cause artifact generation to fail.To resolve this issue, import only the posts. Next, add plugins one by one and verify that they are working correctly. Once verified, generate the artifacts and publish.
