Symptoms
The “509 Bandwidth Limit Exceeded” message appears, and the site is inaccessible.
Causes
- Monthly data transfer has exceeded the plan’s limit.
- WordPress storage usage has exceeded the plan’s limit.
- There is an overdue payment for your service.
Resolution
If your monthly data transfer volume has exceeded your plan’s limit

If your WordPress storage usage exceeds your plan’s limit
- Log in to WordPress and go to [Tools] → [Site Health] → [Information] → [Directories and Sizes] → [Total Installation Size] to check your storage usage.
- Delete any unnecessary files.
- If you are using a WordPress backup plugin, it may cause you to run out of storage space; please use Shifter’s backup feature instead of a plugin.
- If you are running out of storage space, please consider upgrading your pricing plan. Pricing Plans
- On Tier 2 plans and above, you can use the “Pay-as-You-Go CDN Transfer Option,” which adds only the CDN transfer you need when you exceed your CDN transfer allowance.
- Enabling the MediaCDN feature automatically compresses images into WebP format, which helps reduce your CDN data transfer usage.
If your payment is overdue
If your payment fails, access to your site will be restricted, and you will also be unable to launch WordPress. Please register your payment information on the “Billing” page of the Shifter dashboard.

Important Notes
- CDN data transfer and storage capacity usage are tallied once a day. We will notify you via email when you are approaching the limit; however, please be aware that due to traffic spikes or large file uploads, you may reach the limit before the daily tally is completed.
- If you encounter a “509 Bandwidth Limit Exceeded” error without receiving an email notification, please check your usage status on the Shifter dashboard and take the necessary action.
