An “Request failed with status code 500” error appears when downloading an automatic backup

Reason

This occurs because the backup process itself failed when that artifact (deployment) was generated, so there is no backup data available for download. Solution

Solution A: Update the Plugin and Redeploy

Shifter’s automatic backup feature works in conjunction with the

All-in-One WP Migration plugin within WordPress. Backup creation will fail if this plugin is outdated or has issues. Launch WordPress

  1. and log in to the dashboard. In the plugin list,
  2. check whether All-in-One WP Migration and All-in-One WP Migration Unlimited Extension are activated and up to date, and update them if updates are available.
    • If you cannot update them, or if the error persists even with the latest versions, please delete both plugins. Shifter will automatically reinstall the appropriate versions of the plugins when WordPress restarts (or you can reinstall them manually).
  3. Stop WordPress and run Deploy (Generate) again.
  4. Check if the “Download Backup” function works with the newly generated artifact.

Solution B (Alternative) Manual Backup (If You’re in a Hurry)

If you need backup data immediately, do not use the automatic backup feature; instead, retrieve it directly from the WordPress admin panel.

  1. Launch WordPress and log in to the dashboard.
  2. In the left menu, click All-in-One WP Migration > Export.
  3. Under “Export to,” select “ File.”
  4. Download the generated.wpress file directly.
    • * Files downloaded using this method will be saved to your computer.
