While it is possible, we do not recommend it.
Why we do not recommend it
If you use Japanese characters (multibyte characters) in URLs or filenames, the following issues may occur.
- Errors during generation: During the static file generation process, the system may fail to resolve paths containing Japanese characters, resulting in a 404 error for the corresponding page.
- Display Differences Across Browsers and Tools: Japanese URLs are converted to percent-encoded format (e.g.,
%E6%97%A5%E6%9C%AC%E8%AA%9E), which reduces readability when shared on social media or via email. - Integration Issues with External Services: Some analytics tools and search engine crawlers may not process the encoded URLs correctly.
- Images and Media Files: Images uploaded with Japanese filenames may not be referenced correctly during page generation.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter generation errors or receive a 404 error when accessing a page, follow the steps below to resolve the issue.
For post or page URLs (permalinks)
- Open the relevant post or page in the WordPress admin panel.
- Change the permalink to half-width alphanumeric characters and save it.
- Run the regeneration process again.
For Images and Media Files
- Delete the relevant file from the Media Library.
- Rename the file using only half-width alphanumeric characters, hyphens, and underscores, then re-upload it.
- Update all references to the file within the post to the new URL, then run the regeneration.
