Automated Backups

Shifter offers an automated backup feature for WordPress sites on Tier 1 and higher plans. When this feature is enabled, a full backup of your site is automatically created whenever a new deployment is generated. Backup files are saved in the.wpress format and can be downloaded from the Shifter dashboard. You can use these files to migrate your site to another environment using the All-in-One WP Migration plugin.

Setup Instructions:

  1. Verify that your site is on a Tier 1 or higher plan.
  2. Go to your site’s “Settings” menu.
  3. Toggle the “Create a WordPress backup when creating a new deployment” switch to “On.”

That completes the setup. From now on, every time you generate a new artifact, a.wpress format backup file will be created automatically.

Download Instructions:

  1. Go to the “Staging” menu.
  2. Click “Artifact Details” from the “Manage” button for the target deployment.
  3. Click the “Download Backup” button to retrieve the backup file.
