Introduction
Shifter is a website platform that makes it easy to build and publish websites. It offers a variety of features to help you create websites quickly and efficiently. One of these features is the ability to create a custom 404 Not Found page. This is the page displayed when a user requests a page that does not exist.
Common Issues
When generating a new site, Shifter uses the default Shifter 404 page instead of the 404 page specified in the site template.
Best Practices
If you create a 404.php page template in your site’s theme directory (following the WordPress.org guide), it should work as expected. Creating a 404 template via Full Site Editor or a page builder may not be effective, but this is the proper way to create an error page. We’ve developed an experimental plugin for sites facing this issue.
Experimental Shifter 404 Plugin
To help you create a 404 page template if you encounter this issue, we’ve developed the Shifter 404 plugin to help you create a 404 page template if you encounter this issue. This plugin works with Gutenberg and most other page builders. By copying the 404 page as it appears in your browser and saving it as a 404 page template file, you allow the Shifter Generator to crawl the page.
