Ditch team passwords, use Single Sign-On (SSO)!

The Shifter team has been hard at work to develop and implement single sign-on (SSO) via SAML, as requested by many users. This feature simplifies the user experience, increases security, and boosts operational efficiency.

Single sign-on (SSO) is a secure authentication method that enables users to access multiple applications using a single set of credentials. This eliminates the need to remember multiple usernames and passwords, improving security and convenience. SSO is typically provided via an Identity Provider (IdP), which is a third-party service that stores user credentials and verifies user identity.

SSO has numerous benefits. Previously, when using Shifter to manage a site with multiple team members, it was necessary to manually invite each member using Shifter’s team feature. Now, user management can be linked to the management of the Identity Provider (IdP), making the process much simpler and easier to use.

Users can access multiple systems with just one login to their company system, eliminating the need to remember multiple IDs and passwords. This is as long as those systems support SSO. System administrators can also manage permissions of users logging into Shifter with their IdP, allowing for centralized management of Shifter accounts.

Another benefit of SSO, specific to Shifter, is that users who are already logged into a company system can access Shifter features as members of the team. To enable this feature, the cost is $15 per month, per 5 users, and it is currently available for the following IdP: AWS IAM (AWS SSO), Auth0, Azure AD, and Okta.

For more details and specifications on SSO, please refer to Shifter’s support documentation. As always, feel free to contact support with any issues. Shifter continues to grow and improve based on your feedback.
