WordCamp contributor day is here our first impression is, WOW. The overwhelming number of participating is almost overwhelming and certainly impressive.
For anyone new to this term, contributor day is a day before or after the main WordCamp sessions. Contributors come together to support the open source WordPress project, providing feedback, writing code, reviewing documentation and more.
As a sponsor and frequent WordCamp attendee, contributor day is a great event to connect with fellow community members. It’s rare that so many people working on WordPress are in the same place so this is a perfect time for open discussion.
Contributor days are divided into teams, assigned to different areas of focus within the WordPress project. For example, there are teams dedicated to designing, accessibility, PHP, hosting, and more. This year there are 25 different teams! There’s something for everyone regardless of their skill level or experience.
We participate in a few teams including Hosting (of course!), design, documentation, Gutenberg, and more. We find giving back to the project very rewarding and it’s one of the best ways to become more familiar with everything that WordPress can offer.
If you have not attended a contributor day yet we recommend it! Next up, WordCamp sessions.
