Shifter is more secure, now with added Multi-Factor Authentication Support

Multi-Factor Authentication is now available for Shifter users. Protect your WordPress site with Shifter’s unique hosting approach and now protect your Shifter account with another layer of security.

This feature is optional and can be turned on at any time. Multi-factor auth is also known as 2-Factor Authentication is the additional step during a login process which prevents 3rd parties from accessing your data even if they have your password.

When this feature is enabled Shifter will send a unique passcode to your mobile device via SMS. That code is used to as the final step to access your account.

How to use Shifter MFA

To get started with Multi-Factor Auth on Shifter log in to your account and navigate to your Account Settings.

In Account Settings, you’ll see a new panel for Two-Factor Auth.

Toggle, that panel, and scroll up to the phone number area above. If you have not already added your contact number add it here and save when you’re done.

After you save, you’ll get a verification code via SMS. Once you get that code, type it into the new field to verify and complete the setup.

That’s it! The next time you log into Shifter you’ll get a text verification code which you can enter into the login form.

Never heard of 2FA?

It’s becoming more common and it’s never a bad thing to add. There’s a list of companies at twofactorauth.org who support it. Most banks still don’t support 2FA but that doesn’t mean Shifter shouldn’t.

Changelog

This week, Multi-Factor Auth is our big release. Our team has worked on this one a while and we are excited to get this one out there for everyone to use.

Another release for this week includes elevated privileges for sub-users within Organizations. Those sub-users can now update billing info if they are granted that permission This is helpful if you work with clients on projects and they manage the billing themselves.

Other Platform Updates

In keeping with platform-updates, we’ve bumped our container version again with a new version of PHP 7.2.9, some UI tweaks, and squashing of the minor bugs.
