Let’s talk WordPress at #JAMstack_conf NYC

Daniel Olson | April 07, 2019

We’re on our way to NYC this week to attend JAMstack_conf, an event to celebrate and support the growing community of web development focused on using JavaScript, APIs, and Markup.

If you’re new to JAMstack, we recommend checking out the info site, jamstack.org and following our event coverage this week on Twitter at @GetShifter. We’ll be highlighting the benefits, best practices, and concepts that make this approach to web dev so appealing.

For us, we believe JAMstack could have a tremendously positive effect on how we build WordPress sites. It’s not just a move away from a monolithic architecture, it’s changing the way we think about security, scaling, cost, and more.

Our mission is to introduce the best of what JAMstack has to offer to the WordPress community, making it accessible, approachable, and encourage growth.

Way back in 2015 (like a million years ago) Matt Mullenweg challenged the WordPress community to learn JavaScript deeply. At the time, some of the fastest growing JS related projects were React and static site generators. Their relationship with WordPress was interesting but their potential wasn’t so apparent.

Fast-forward to today and it’s clear that JavaScript played a major role in the growth of the modern web developers toolkit but not without a few other parts. For starters, APIs, the development of SDKs standardizing how we interact with applications, and how we design the architecture itself. Within the WordPress world, this would be the WordPress REST API, WordPress as a headless CMS, and Gutenberg’s use of React, to name a few.

The parallels between the rise of JAMstack and state of WordPress today may not be so obvious but they do share a common history. We look forward to being a part of that future and our next stop is JAMstack_conf NYC.

Let us know what you think about the future of WordPress, JAMstack and more. We’re looking forward to it and hope to see you this week.
