Today, we’re pleased to announce that we’ve added the ability to download access logs to our Tier 3 plans. As we’ve continued our work improving and updating Shifter, one of the most important aspects that’ guided our work has been customer feedback. The ability to export access logs. Access logs are a complete record of files that have been requested from a user’s website along with associated data. There are several reasons that these logs can be useful, from SEO research to performing in-depth security audits.
Before we go over how this feature works, there are a few thing to note.
Fill out your bucket name and select your region. If you get stuck setting up a bucket, be sure to check out the official AWS guide.
Log in to your Shifter dashboard. Then, under your site settings, enter the information from the S3 bucket that you just created. Be sure to make sure that the name and region are an exact match for the information from your S3 bucket.
After you’ve entered your information and clicked the “Next” button, you’ll see your S3 bucket policy. Go ahead and copy this code.
Navigate back to your AWS S3 console and locate your bucket policy under the “Permissions” tab. Paste the code you just copied into the text field. Then, click the “Save” button right above the text area
Return to your Shifter dashboard. Then, check the box that says “I’ve updated my bucket policy”. Once you’ve clicked the “Submit” button, you will see a confirmation message.
After a bit, Shifter will export a log file to your S3 Bucket. Now, you’ll be able to obtain your access logs from here.
As always, if you have any comments or concerns please feel free to reach out to our support team. We look forward to your feedback!
